This fund is dedicated to the memory of Young Actors Space actor, Garry L. Bates, who gifted our stages with his talent for many years. He was a bright light who brought joy and love to all.

This scholarship honors his spirit by providing one full session of classes to an actor who represents a deep love for the craft, is a committed artist with positive energy and strong work ethic, and has aspirations in the entertainment industry.

To qualify, students must be at least 10 years old, have previously attended at least 1 full session of classes at YAS with perfect attendance, and have not previously received the scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be expected to arrive 10 minutes early to all classes, maintain perfect attendance, and complete all homework assignments.

To submit for the scholarship, actors must complete the following:

  • A letter of intent including name, age, address, and a statement on why acting is important to you.

  • A List of your acting experience (if any) as well as the films, plays, and/ or television shows and actors that inspire you

  • Answer the following questions with as much detail as you can:

    • How have you recently supported a friend or family member?
    • What act of kindness do you most remember someone doing for you?
    • When you achieve your goals (whether it’s for acting or not), what charity or charities would you like to support?
