Three Americans work as Checkers for a mysterious multi-national company in a distant land. Merkin is the power-obsessed boss, Hanrahan the tortured middle manager and Dobbitt, the disturbingly eager newcomer.

Away from their families and isolated from the other workers on the industrial compound, they are completely dependent on each other. However, their need to compete is as strong as their need to connect, and they guard their territory with baroque, subterranean strategies.

The play is about loneliness and the deep existential pettiness of men attempting to work together.

Richard Dresser's "Below the Belt" was originally written for three men. Our YAS Theatre Company had multiple casts in repertory, including mixed gender and ALL FEMALE casts. This was an exciting aspect of our production and possibly the first time the play has been performed this way.

As a thank you to the San Fernando Valley community, where YAS has been serving since 1979, a portion of the monies raised by this campaign was donated to the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, which helps the homeless to obtain food, shelter, and basic life necessities. It was a great way to give back to our community.
